Look at Process Essays pages 116-117.

Write five sentences with noun clauses: (3 with that, and 2 with question words) for example: I believe that / I know that / The article explains that I know where / why/ who

Lab Exercises for week 8



  1. Check your Hometown blog (from last week) for grammar errors!!! I found a lot of mistakes with who, which, where when.



  2. Read two other people's blogs and write a comment.



  3. SkillsBank Writing: Language Mechanics 8, 9, 10 if you haven't already done them. then try Quiz 2 5-10.



  4. Do the online exercises: Relative pronouns, more practice, this one is harder even more ,try reduced adjectives clauses (Thursday's Lesson) OR try any of these exercises Scroll down to the Adjective and adverb clause section.



  5. You can also do some more UUEG Chapter 13 exercises. Exercises 13 15, 17 and 27 are good review practice for WHOSE, WHERE and WHEN



  6. New Blog for this week: Describe a favorite toy, childhood memory, or find and interesting picture from the internet to describe using who, which, that, whose, where. try reducing some of the adjective clauses. (Please post by Sunday)



  7. Start typing your compare and contrast essay. (Due Wednesday )

Homework & Grammar Test on Monday


  1. Study for your Grammar Test on Monday. It will cover: adverb clauses p.41 (because, if, when, although etc, transition words p.58 (Therefore, however, In addition etc) & Fragments p. 82-82, Run ons p.92-93, and Comma Splice errors p. 104-105.

  2. Complete your outline for your "How to Deal with Stress" essay. You should have topic sentences for each body paragraph and notes about details and examples. If you can not think of details, try to make your paragraphs a bit broader. Instead of "Talking to friends" say "Talking to People" and write about friends and parents.

3. Start their blog for this week. Topic: What is your favorite place in Seattle? (Use the transition words on page 58) Try to write at a longer paragraph (about 10 sentences). Please check your grammar and spelling ! You can add a link to a Google Map or a picture if you want.

4. Skills Bank Writing: Sentence Structure: Test 1 and 2 (T1, T2)

5. Skills Bank Writing: Clear Writing and paragraphs: S1 Thinking Skills: Introduction and 4 Non Parallel grammatical forms.

6. Townsend Press Grammar Essentials Chapters 5, 6, 16. Some students have done these already. If you just did one exercise, please try another.

7. Read another two other classmates' blogs about their favorite place in Seattle and make a comment.

Review the following:
model essays on pages 50-53, 55-56
outlines on pages 54 and 56-57.
thesis statements and introductions on pages 67-68 and 78-80.

This is an in class essay. You must have:


  • an introduction with a clear thesis statement

  • separate body paragraphs with transitions, topic sentences, supporting sentences with examples and/or details

  • a short conclusion that restates the main idea.

Review the photocopies on modals and do the following exercises in UUEG:

Chapter 9 Test 1-20 (if you have trouble with this try some more exercises)
Chapter 10 Test 1-20
Chapter 17 Test 1-20
Chapter 20 Read the introduction/ look at the charts
Test 1-20
If this is difficult for you and you receive less than 75%, please try more exercises.


On your blog write 5 if clauses, use present true, present untrue, past untrue and unless.


IF you still don't understand introductions, try to write another introduction and have me check it.
